Astigmatism

Astigmatism is a common condition in which the cornea, or clear out layer of the eye surface, is abnormally shaped.  The cornea of a person with astigmatism is often described as having more of a football shape than a basketball shape.  This results in poor ability to distinguish fine details at a distance as well as up close. The condition can be treated with glasses, special contact lenses and certain laser vision correction procedures.
